Costa Brava

Calella de Palafrugell

Calella de Palafrugell is a little fishing and tourist place. It is totally opposite to Lloret de Mar.There are 5-6 friendly beaches in the area of about 2 km from the city. They are crowded in the peak season.Nightlife is not developed, so this is a place primarily intended for those seeking leisure and peace during the summer.Calella de Palafrugell has recently started to offer exclusive hotels and inns, which are quite expensive.

Tamariu

Tamariu is placed in the pleasant bay surrounded by cliffs and pine forests. There are three small hotels, a few good fish restaurants and cafes. The water is crystal clear. Moreover, it is a very interesting place for divers since there are a lot of caves. It is located near the cities of Palafrugell and Begur and is about 110 km south of the border with France.Roses is one of the largest tourist centers in the northern part of Costa Brava. It has many historical sites. One of them is a citadel at the eastern end of the city. Moreover, you can choose a free tourist guide. However, the main magnet for tourists is still sandy beaches that stretch along the bay. Above all, the approach to the city is spectacular since it is in the foothill of steep cliffs.

Cadaques

Cadaques is a miniature tourist destination. Cadaques is best known for being the home place of the famous painter Salvador Dali. He spent his vacations here during his childhood and later he decided to move to the nearby village of Port Lligat. After Dali’s success in the U.S. during the 1950s, Cadaques was visited by many celebrities such as Walt Disney, the Duke of Windsor and Pablo Picasso. Even during the 70’s this fashion continued, so it hosted Mick Jagger and Gabriel Garcia Marquez as well. Today there are no celebrities, but there are many more tourists. Just 1800 permanent residents live in Cadaques, but during the summer there are many tourists from France and Italy. The main attraction of the city is Dalí's house that has been turned into a museum. It is just 15 minutes walk from the center of Cadaques.Cadaques is a small, very picturesque city. Its houses have walls painted in white color, and above them are placed rocky cliffs.

Accommodation in Costa Brava

Even though Brava in Spanish and Catalan means ‘rugged’ or ‘wild’, this Catalonian region is very beautiful and moreover, it offers many tourist facilities. You can find luxurious hotels here but you can also enjoy yourself in the tranquil little tourist reserves.Prices of accommodation on the Costa Brava significantly depend on the quality, but the cheapest double rooms are about 30 €.

Costa del Azahar

Costa del Azahar means Orange Blossom Coast in Spanish and yes, it does indeed live up to its name as the Orange Blossom Coast. Costa del Azahar is beautiful; once you look at the ocean, you will have no idea where the sea ends and where the sky begins. The Orange Blossom Coast is located off the coast of the Spanish provinces of Castellon and Valencia, but many main cities and towns around are popular because of this coast. All the cities and towns surrounding Costa del Azahar are popular because of the vast activities they offer including the bicycle tracks, walking areas, resorts, boat rides and so much more. The Orange Blossom Coast is also very popular because of its great climate, friendly people, great beaches and lots of sea food.

The climate is what you can expect from a Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers and mild and dry winters; the temperatures usually range from 5 degrees Centigrade to 32 degrees Centigrade. Being an essential Mediterranean region, it gets a limited amount of rain usually resorting to a shortage of rain in the summers, but this can be made up by its great beaches where you can cool off! Some of the seaside towns include Vinaros, Benicarlo, Peniscola, Alcossebre, Oliva, and Gandia which set their focus on the sea having beautiful beaches and harbors with great restaurants. Benicarlo is more of a working town with many markets, shops and lots of historic buildings.

Peniscola is the most popular seaside town sitting on top of a peninsula where the film “El Cid" was shot. Alcossebre (or Alcocebre) is more like a quiet place with its friendly resorts and numerous places to shop and restaurants all around the town. Oliva has a very long beach which makes it a great getaway for couples who love to walk by the side of the beach. Gandia is the second largest resort after Vinaros with its small hotels and friendly people.Along with seaside towns, there are also inland towns and cities including Calig, Cervera del Maestre and Morella. Calig is just about eight kilometers from Benicarlo; Calig offers a variety of shopping outlets and restaurants. Cevera del Maestre can be reached by just driving up a winding road from Calig; this town gives an excellent view of Costa del Azahar. Morella is also an extraordinary place, about 60 kilometers from Vinaros; this town has a castle on top of a hill giving a great view from any part of the town. All in all Costa del Azahar is an extraordiary coast you would want to visit anytime.

Corunna

About the city

Corunna (La Coruña in Spanish or A Coruña in Galician) is an attractive old town with diverse selection of hotels. However, Coruña has recently gained in popularity. In 2006, the number of tourists reached half a million, which is more than double of the entire population of Corunna.
Corunna is located in the north west of Spain’s Coast facing the Atlantic Ocean. It has an almost ideal climate with just over 20 degrees in the summer and 10-15 ° C in the winter.

Corunna is similar to most cities of Galicia. The most interesting part is the Cidade Vella (old city) with main buildings from the middle ages. Furthermore, one part of the old town is surrounded by walls which date from the period of ancient Rome. Citizens of Corunna call the old town Cidade, which means the city.
In contrast to the other parts of Spain, cities of Galicia do not have any influence of Islam since this area has never been under the Muslims.

Attractions

Paseo Maritimo is a 19 km long promenade along the ocean; above all it is the longest promenade in Europe. Parallel to the promenade are trams and a path for cyclists. The Roman lighthouse Torre de Hércules and the impressive Aquarium Finisterrae are placed in the middle of the promenade.Finisterrae Aquarium (means-aquarium at the end of the world) is an interactive center whose primary aim is to preserve the ecosystem of the Galician coast. Outdoor pool aquarium is related to the Atlantic Ocean and it helps in monitoring the change of tides. Aquarium was opened in 1999.Torre de Hércules Roman lighthouse is almost 2000 years old, it is located on the tip of  Corunna, about 2.5 km from the city center. In June 2009, Torre de Hércules was placed under the protection of UNESCO.

Night life is well-developed, especially in the summer. Pubs and clubs are concentrated in the street Calle Orzan. They are open until 1 or 2 a.m. Be sure to try the local beer Estrella Galicia (Galician stars) with olives in the glass.Glazed balconies are a symbol of Corunna. They had a practical purpose, which was to protect citizens from strong Atlantic winds and rains during the fall and winter. Glazed balconies first appeared in the neighboring port city of Ferro; however they quickly spread to other coastal towns in Galicia.

Beaches

Orzán and Riazor are two main beaches. They are located in the city center next to each other. Total length of them is over 1 km. These two beaches attract surfers all year round due to strong winds.

Benidorm

About Benidorm

Benidorm is placed in the province of Alicante on the Mediterranean coast. It is the most visited Spanish resort. The city has about 68,000 residents and during the summer, it hosts approximately four million tourists. In the beginning of the fifties, Benidorm was a small fishing village which forms the heart of the old town today.Whether you arrive to Benidorm by bus or car, your first impression will be that you are in Rio or Hong Kong. View of Benidorm at night is something that you will certainly not forget for a long time. Due to its illuminated skyscrapers which look as if they are standing in the sea, you will think of Benidorm as a megalopolis with a huge and dirty port. However, it is actually the largest Spanish summer resort, the city where everything is dedicated to tourists.

Beaches

The soul of the city is made of two beautiful sandy beaches - the rising sun beach (Playa Levante) and the sunset beach (Poniente Playa). Both are equally beautiful, albeit they have different sensibilities. If you do not know which one to choose, find the accommodation near Poniente and spend your evenings near Levante. In that way, your dream vacation may come true. During the day you will enjoy the calming sound of waves and Levante will provide you with a rich nightlife. There are also two small city beaches which are separated by a cape. However, that cape is usually called Castello by local inhabitants, although it is just a viewpoint. In the foothill of the old town is Playa del Mar Pas. It is a small, hidden city beach. Younger tourists are the main visitors of this beach. However, you also find “backpack” tourists here, although camping in the city is forbidden.

El Castell de Guadalest

The medieval village of Guadalest is situated just a few kilometers from Benidorm in the mountains. This amazing place has remarkable monuments such as Castello San Jose from the 12th century, baroque Catholic Church, etc... It has only 189 inhabitants, so you can enjoy authentic food and drink here.

Terra Mitica

What you should not miss, even if you are prone to this type of entertainment, is a visit to Terra Mitica. It is located only three miles from the center of Benidorm on the other side of the highway. Terra Mitica is Paramount’s (movie house) amusement park. It opened in 2003 and attracts tourists from all over the Mediterranean coast.
The park is a walk through history and ancient civilizations. Therefore, it is divided into "lands" and civilizations. So you can walk through Egypt, Rome, Ancient Greece, Iberia, etc. Fun is guaranteed!
