Rias Baixas

Rias Baixas faces the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Costa del Marisco. Rias Baixas is a Spanish province known for its grapes, used to make excellent white wine. Rias Baixas is very famous for its Spanish wine selection, including the following famous wines:

Albariño de Fefinanes
Brandal Albariño
Condes de Albarei Albariño
Don Olegario Albariño
Mar de Frades Albariño
Paco and Lola Albariño
Pazo de Senorans Albariño
Pazo de Sanorans Seleccion de Anada
Salneval Albariño
Serra da Estrela
Torre la Moreira Albariño
Valminor Albariño

Rias Baixas is not only famous for its vast wine selection; it is also famous for its climate which is Atlantic, with wet winters and mild summers. The rainfall in this area is generally high while the temperatures are mild with the average being 55 degrees F; this climate makes it easy for grapes to grow with over 2,200 hours of sunlight during the growing season. While the grapes are growing nice and ripe on the vines, it gives you plenty of time to go around on a tour where you can enjoy a great time at the beach, taste wines and even have a chance to make your own wine. There is also a national park in Rias Baixas, Cies  Islands which is part of Galicia National Park. It is a great place to see wildlife in action. Along with many other things to do in Rias Baixas, you could go fishing at one of the great fishing ports in Rias Baixas - Ribeira and Bueu. The beaches are also great places to visit in Rias

Baixas because they are extremely safe with lifeguards on duty most of the day.Overall Rias Baixas is a great place to be along with the rest of the Galician coast, being a great place to “have a good time and let loose” while being able to embrace the history of these magnificent places including their great beaches, restaurants, resorts and wine. With regard to the beauty of Rias Baixas, it is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in the world; walking around seeing grapes everywhere, having a view of the ocean around that seems like it will never end and a picturesque view from your bedside, it is almost unbelievable. However you may never be able to believe what I am talking about until you have actually seen it with your own eyes, so make your next vacation to Rias Baixas or any of the Galician coasts.

Places of tourist interest in Cuenca, Spain

The city of Cuenca in Spain is a paradise for those tourists who wish to visit places of historical importance. Some of the places of interest for tourists are briefly introduced here:

St. Paul Bridge:

This Bridge is constructed over the Huecar's Gorge. According to history it was constructed in the year 1533. People were finding it difficult to visit Saint Paul Convent which was on the other side of the bridge. To enable people to attend the Convent, the bridge was constructed by Jaun Del Pozo. Actually the original bridge collapsed and a new one was constructed in the beginning of the 20th century. The new bridge has been constructed on the remains of the old bridge. This bridge which is located at a height of about 60 meters has been constructed using steel and wood.

The Town hall:

Some people would say what is so special in a Town Hall? The Town Hall building in Cuenca has a history behind it. It was constructed in the year 1762 in typical Baroque style by King Charles III. This is the most beautiful building in the vicinity. The three Roman Arches which support this building are unique in their look and aesthetic beauty. The Central Arch of the building is so beautiful that it has enhanced the beauty of the building.

Hanging Houses:

Can a house hang? In fact history says that hanging houses were common in Cuenca. These houses were built on a rock. Such houses were plenty all along the Huecar River Gorge. According to historians these houses were constructed in the 15th century. Now only two hanging houses are remaining. Out of the two houses, one is converted into a hotel and the other one into a museum. This museum has a collection of innumerable photos which are taken from the bridge of San Pablo.

Monument:

Located on the top of a hill where one can have a spectacular look of the places around is a monument devoted to Holy Heart of Jesus. Materials relevant to the monument were transported to the top of the hill through donkeys. The hill can be climbed by foot or even by car.

Provincial council:

This building has been constructed in the 20th century and it is one of the most beautiful buildings of Cuenca. The building is so elegant that it attracts the attention of most of the visitors.

Places of interest in Spain – Burgos

This is a part of the Castile and Leon province located in the North of Spain. This moderately populated city was under the occupation of Romans and later rulers of many other civilizations like Hispania, Visigoths, Moors and later Christians took over the city. Many religious groups belonging to some of these earlier civilizations can be seen even to this day in Burgos and they live in an environment of perfect harmony with each other. Burgos has many places which are of interest for the tourists. Some of the places of tourist attraction are mentioned here briefly:

Entry to the city:

Locals advise the tourists to enter the old city through a place called ‘Arco de Santa Maria’ which is actually a gateway to the city. The gateway is most intricately carved. That gives a very pleasant welcome to the tourists. This entry welcomes the tourists with statues of some of the dignitaries who were instrumental in putting the city on the tourist map of the world and these people have toiled hard for the overall development of the city.

Cathedrals and churches:

Burgos has many important cathedrals and churches. They are Chapel of Condestables, Monastery of Las Huelgas and Monastery of Miraflores. The church of Lerma, San Estaban, San Pedro, Santiago, San Lesmes and San Lorenzo are some of the most popular churches. In addition to this, the city has some of the most popular architectural sites like the wall of the city, Gateway of Santa Maria and the arch of Fernan Gonzalez.

Gothic cathedral:

This church is believed to have been built in the year 1221. This is one of the masterpiece works of architecture. This most beautifully designed cathedral has towers which end in octagonal spires. These spires comprise of stonework throughout the entire cathedral. In the middle section, there are pictures which speak about the martyrdom of the saints. The interior of the cathedral is beautifully decorated with works of art and artifacts. The cathedral bears typical Gothic design. Sacristy’s exterior has beautiful sculpture works and most beautiful figures of angels, armored knights, etc. The interior of the cathedral is luxuriously carved and it bears the paintings of many angels. The statues both inside and outside the cathedral speak of the mastery of the sculptors who carved them.

Cartuja de Miraflores:

This monastery has a treasure and that is the statute of St. Bruno. This wooden statue is most revered by people from all over Europe. The choir stall made out of wood and the mausoleum of King John II and Queen Isabel are the other works which deserve to be seen.

Places of interest in Spain – Cuenca

This city of Cuenca which is located in Central Spain is one of the largest provinces covering an area of about 17000 sq kms. Like other provinces, even Cuenca was under the rule of Romans and Moors and later Christians took over the city. The Moors recognized its strategic location and they started to protect the city by building forts. Cuenca is rich in heritage buildings and is also known for its beautiful environment and natural beauty. We start our tour of Cuenca by visiting ‘Our lady of Grace Cathedral’.This cathedral is believed to have been built during the period 1182 to 1270. The façade of the building was rebuilt in 1902. Historians believe that this is the first Gothic style cathedral in this region. The cathedral has undergone changes that were carried out by successive civilizations. There is a sign of ‘Unum ex septem’ in this cathedral. People have the faith that those who pray looking at this sign of ‘Unum ex septem’ would get forgiveness from sins for five years.

Church of Saint Peter:

This church is believed to have been built by one Jose Martin in the 18th century. It is located at a place called Plaza del Trabuco. The façade of the church is beautifully designed. The entire church is designed in octagonal shape from the outside while inside it is circular in shape.

Bishop’s Palace:

This is our next place of visit. The palace is beautifully designed. The palace has a museum where rare works of art are on display. It is said that some of the art works were lost in the Spanish war of independence. Some of the most beautiful works of handicraft made on carpet are on display in this palace.

Seminary:

Built in the year 1745, it has a rectangular building. The seminary is popular for its baroque façade. This is one of the Seminaries which have collection of numerous religious books dating back to the year 1501. There is a meeting room which is built in typical Gothic architecture. Normally visitors are not allowed inside the meeting room.  Every year more than 15 priests are trained in this Seminary. Managana Tower: At the outset, there are no historical records to verify when this tower was built. However, going by the available information, historians believe that the tower was built earlier to the year 1565. Visitors should not miss this Managana Tower because of its architectural beauty. It is also the most ideal viewpoint to have a glimpse of the places around Cuenca.

Costa del Azahar

Costa del Azahar means Orange Blossom Coast in Spanish and yes, it does indeed live up to its name as the Orange Blossom Coast. Costa del Azahar is beautiful; once you look at the ocean, you will have no idea where the sea ends and where the sky begins. The Orange Blossom Coast is located off the coast of the Spanish provinces of Castellon and Valencia, but many main cities and towns around are popular because of this coast. All the cities and towns surrounding Costa del Azahar are popular because of the vast activities they offer including the bicycle tracks, walking areas, resorts, boat rides and so much more. The Orange Blossom Coast is also very popular because of its great climate, friendly people, great beaches and lots of sea food.

The climate is what you can expect from a Mediterranean climate, with hot and dry summers and mild and dry winters; the temperatures usually range from 5 degrees Centigrade to 32 degrees Centigrade. Being an essential Mediterranean region, it gets a limited amount of rain usually resorting to a shortage of rain in the summers, but this can be made up by its great beaches where you can cool off! Some of the seaside towns include Vinaros, Benicarlo, Peniscola, Alcossebre, Oliva, and Gandia which set their focus on the sea having beautiful beaches and harbors with great restaurants. Benicarlo is more of a working town with many markets, shops and lots of historic buildings.

Peniscola is the most popular seaside town sitting on top of a peninsula where the film “El Cid" was shot. Alcossebre (or Alcocebre) is more like a quiet place with its friendly resorts and numerous places to shop and restaurants all around the town. Oliva has a very long beach which makes it a great getaway for couples who love to walk by the side of the beach. Gandia is the second largest resort after Vinaros with its small hotels and friendly people.Along with seaside towns, there are also inland towns and cities including Calig, Cervera del Maestre and Morella. Calig is just about eight kilometers from Benicarlo; Calig offers a variety of shopping outlets and restaurants. Cevera del Maestre can be reached by just driving up a winding road from Calig; this town gives an excellent view of Costa del Azahar. Morella is also an extraordinary place, about 60 kilometers from Vinaros; this town has a castle on top of a hill giving a great view from any part of the town. All in all Costa del Azahar is an extraordiary coast you would want to visit anytime.

Corunna

About the city

Corunna (La Coruña in Spanish or A Coruña in Galician) is an attractive old town with diverse selection of hotels. However, Coruña has recently gained in popularity. In 2006, the number of tourists reached half a million, which is more than double of the entire population of Corunna.
Corunna is located in the north west of Spain’s Coast facing the Atlantic Ocean. It has an almost ideal climate with just over 20 degrees in the summer and 10-15 ° C in the winter.

Corunna is similar to most cities of Galicia. The most interesting part is the Cidade Vella (old city) with main buildings from the middle ages. Furthermore, one part of the old town is surrounded by walls which date from the period of ancient Rome. Citizens of Corunna call the old town Cidade, which means the city.
In contrast to the other parts of Spain, cities of Galicia do not have any influence of Islam since this area has never been under the Muslims.

Attractions

Paseo Maritimo is a 19 km long promenade along the ocean; above all it is the longest promenade in Europe. Parallel to the promenade are trams and a path for cyclists. The Roman lighthouse Torre de Hércules and the impressive Aquarium Finisterrae are placed in the middle of the promenade.Finisterrae Aquarium (means-aquarium at the end of the world) is an interactive center whose primary aim is to preserve the ecosystem of the Galician coast. Outdoor pool aquarium is related to the Atlantic Ocean and it helps in monitoring the change of tides. Aquarium was opened in 1999.Torre de Hércules Roman lighthouse is almost 2000 years old, it is located on the tip of  Corunna, about 2.5 km from the city center. In June 2009, Torre de Hércules was placed under the protection of UNESCO.

Night life is well-developed, especially in the summer. Pubs and clubs are concentrated in the street Calle Orzan. They are open until 1 or 2 a.m. Be sure to try the local beer Estrella Galicia (Galician stars) with olives in the glass.Glazed balconies are a symbol of Corunna. They had a practical purpose, which was to protect citizens from strong Atlantic winds and rains during the fall and winter. Glazed balconies first appeared in the neighboring port city of Ferro; however they quickly spread to other coastal towns in Galicia.

Beaches

Orzán and Riazor are two main beaches. They are located in the city center next to each other. Total length of them is over 1 km. These two beaches attract surfers all year round due to strong winds.

Benidorm

About Benidorm

Benidorm is placed in the province of Alicante on the Mediterranean coast. It is the most visited Spanish resort. The city has about 68,000 residents and during the summer, it hosts approximately four million tourists. In the beginning of the fifties, Benidorm was a small fishing village which forms the heart of the old town today.Whether you arrive to Benidorm by bus or car, your first impression will be that you are in Rio or Hong Kong. View of Benidorm at night is something that you will certainly not forget for a long time. Due to its illuminated skyscrapers which look as if they are standing in the sea, you will think of Benidorm as a megalopolis with a huge and dirty port. However, it is actually the largest Spanish summer resort, the city where everything is dedicated to tourists.

Beaches

The soul of the city is made of two beautiful sandy beaches - the rising sun beach (Playa Levante) and the sunset beach (Poniente Playa). Both are equally beautiful, albeit they have different sensibilities. If you do not know which one to choose, find the accommodation near Poniente and spend your evenings near Levante. In that way, your dream vacation may come true. During the day you will enjoy the calming sound of waves and Levante will provide you with a rich nightlife. There are also two small city beaches which are separated by a cape. However, that cape is usually called Castello by local inhabitants, although it is just a viewpoint. In the foothill of the old town is Playa del Mar Pas. It is a small, hidden city beach. Younger tourists are the main visitors of this beach. However, you also find “backpack” tourists here, although camping in the city is forbidden.

El Castell de Guadalest

The medieval village of Guadalest is situated just a few kilometers from Benidorm in the mountains. This amazing place has remarkable monuments such as Castello San Jose from the 12th century, baroque Catholic Church, etc... It has only 189 inhabitants, so you can enjoy authentic food and drink here.

Terra Mitica

What you should not miss, even if you are prone to this type of entertainment, is a visit to Terra Mitica. It is located only three miles from the center of Benidorm on the other side of the highway. Terra Mitica is Paramount’s (movie house) amusement park. It opened in 2003 and attracts tourists from all over the Mediterranean coast.
The park is a walk through history and ancient civilizations. Therefore, it is divided into "lands" and civilizations. So you can walk through Egypt, Rome, Ancient Greece, Iberia, etc. Fun is guaranteed!
